Elephant brand super glue on hands: a common problem that everyone has encountered in crafts, DIY projects, and repairing broken items to make them usable again with super glue. But every time we use the glue, we accidentally get it on our hands. When the glue dries, it’s both hot and quickly hardens, sticking firmly to the skin.
If there’s only a small amount of glue, it’s probably not a big concern. But if there’s a large amount stuck to your hands, you’ll need to quickly find a way to remove the super glue, which anyone can do. Certain everyday items can easily solve this problem for anyone facing the issue of super glue on their hands. Just follow these steps.
13 Ways to Remove Hot Glue from Skin
- Using Warm Water and Soap: This is a simple and safe method to remove super glue from your hands. First, prepare warm water mixed with mild soap in a container or a clean bowl. Then, soak the hand with the glue in the warm, soapy water for about 1 minute to soften the glue. Afterward, use a small, unused brush to gently scrub the glue residue off the skin. This method may need to be repeated several times for the glue to come off completely.
- Using Dish Soap: This is also an easy way to remove super glue from your hands, as everyone uses dish soap daily for washing dishes. The chemicals in dish soap (sodium laureth sulfate) are acidic and help break down the glue stuck to your hands. Apply the dish soap to the area with glue, then gently rub with your fingers or a clean scouring pad. The glue will come off easily.
- Using Nail Polish Remover: Choose the nail polish remover you normally use for your nails. It’s recommended to choose a nail polish remover with gentle ingredients and without overly strong chemicals, as they can irritate the skin. Soak a cotton ball or clean cloth with the remover and apply it to the area with glue. Then, rinse your hands thoroughly with warm water. This can easily remove the glue from your hands.
- Using Fingernails: This method is suitable when there is only a small amount of super glue on the skin. Try using your fingernails or gently scraping and peeling to remove the super glue residue.
- Using Thinner: Find a scrap of unused cloth and soak it in thinner. Rub it on the hand with the glue. Thinner contains solvents that can dissolve the glue. (This method is not recommended if there is only a small amount of glue) because it can be harmful and irritate the skin. After using thinner to remove the glue, immediately wash your hands thoroughly and do not leave it on for long.
- Using Cooking Oil: The cooking oil we use for frying food can also help remove super glue stuck to hands. Choose a cooking oil with high concentration and fineness, such as coconut oil or soybean oil. First, soak a piece of cloth in the cooking oil and rub it on the glue stain on your hand. Keep rubbing, and the glue will come off easily.
- Using Skin Lotion: The various skin lotions that women use in their daily lives can also remove glue stains. Simply squeeze the cream onto the skin with the glue stain, then rub it continuously. The glue stain will surely come off completely.
- Scrubbing with Salt: The salt we use for cooking can also be used to remove super glue stuck to hands. It is recommended to use salt with small granules. Prepare it in a clean plate or bowl. Then, sprinkle it on the palm with the glue stain. Use both hands to rub the salt against the glue stain for about 1 minute, then rinse with clean water. If the glue stain doesn’t come off, continue rubbing until it’s completely gone.
- Laundry Detergent Mixed with Warm Water: The laundry detergent you regularly use for washing clothes, whether it’s regular detergent or one with gentle ingredients for the skin, is another commonly used method to remove super glue from your hands. It can remove glue stains simply by adding an appropriate amount of detergent to warm water and stirring until the powder is completely dissolved. Then, soak the hand with the glue stain in the detergent-water mixture, rub your hands together in the water, and gently scrub to dissolve the super glue. Finally, rinse your hands with clean water to prevent skin irritation from the detergent.
- Using Lemon Juice: A common household fruit that everyone has for cooking, easily found, can be used to scrub off super glue stuck to hands. Prepare lemon juice or freshly squeezed lemon juice in a clean container. Soak a soft cloth in the lemon juice and apply it to the area of the hand with the super glue stain. Then, gently wipe the glue stain with the cloth. Finally, rinse your hands with clean water to prevent skin irritation.
- Using Alcohol: Everyone should have alcohol in their medicine cabinet, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic; it’s essential to carry it around. Prepare alcohol with a concentration of about 70% for effective glue removal. (This method is not recommended if there is only a small amount of glue). Simply soak a clean cloth in the alcohol and rub it on the glue stain on your hand. Keep rubbing, and the glue will come off easily. Afterward, immediately wash your hands thoroughly and do not leave it on for long.
- Using Butter: If you have butter at home for cooking (available at most supermarkets), apply it to the hand with the glue stain. Rub it continuously, and the glue will gradually peel off easily.
- Consult a Pharmacist or Doctor: If you have tried all the methods mentioned above and the super glue stain persists after using all the methods, the best and final thing to do is to see a doctor at a hospital or a pharmacist at a nearby clinic to use a specific (medical) solvent to remove the glue stain safely.
As you can see, the various methods we recommend are very easy to do, using readily available items to solve the problem of super glue stuck to your hands. If your hands are currently experiencing this problem, look around and see if you have any of the items at home that can be used to remove the glue according to these methods. Because super glue, or Super Glue, has a viscous gel texture that dries and hardens quickly when exposed to air and adheres firmly to the surface of objects, it is very dangerous to our skin.
Ideally, to avoid problems before using super glue, you should read the manufacturer’s instructions on the back of the packaging for safety and effective use.
